As of now the site will run Wordpress with user blog enabling in Multi-Site and and a forum in phpBB via WP-United.

Would that eventually cause problems with an overly large SQL database down the road? Or, do you have plans to get an extremely large DB going?

Hello,
Bit late to the party here, i was in contact with roaddog about 2 months back while on the road about rebuilding digihitch, however at the time help had been found. My original offer still stands. Forgive me if this is a bit of a mixed post.
I have a VPS available of which i only use a small part occasionally for freelance work, i am more than happy for the new site to be hosted there for FREE and indefinitely. I have plenty of experience in website coding/design including the norms of php, html, css etc Im technically a student (at 26 that feels odd to say) at the moment so have enough time to dedicate to getting a stable system up and running for the community to build on.
Might i suggest a Joomla + phpbb with integrated login (one account for both) that way there is the (possibly distant possibility) of transferring the forums and the existing mods/admins are familiar with the forum system. I was not around when the site was as morgan built so dont know the original setup, but joomla should allow relatively easy article creation/transfer.
Forgive me if im treading on toes, but hitchhiking is something i would really like to see grow and not disappear into the history books.
What you guys/girls think?
Chris.
Ps I really like the new name.

Evan might appreciate the help. I don't know all that much about the technical aspect of things; I know how to bold things with HTML and create a calculator with C+, that's about it. Anyway, thanks for the offer. The more the merrier.

Hey Chris,
Duuuude!!! It's great to have you here.
The hosting is already taken care of, but I appreciate your offer.
I forgot that I had put this post up.
I'm still working out how some of the custom php and scripts will integrate with Wordpress, Joomla, or even Drupal. I'll post more once all scripts are tested. Might even test a few custom BuddyPress ideas.
I don't think we'll transfer the Digihitch forums over, but the general consensus is that we'll definitely mine some of the stickies.
It's great to have a web guy around that I (or we) can bounce ideas off of.
Thanks, Evan.
And you're not treading on any toes! We're trying to build a community, and we all have an equal share. =]
Cheers!

Would that eventually cause problems with an overly large SQL database down the road? Or, do you have plans to get an extremely large DB going? No worries there, Dave. Ain't no thing but a chicken wing on a string!
