Hello, Some of you have expressed that you'd like our new site to mirror the current Digihitch forum structure (which has 56 categories, not including the administrative ones). Some of you have suggested a more simplified or streamlined forum structure. I think thewindandrain was headed in the right direction in his post here. Please share which categories you'd like to see, and which categories you think are unnecessary or redundant.

As I said in another post. Not that I think it was in danger of being left out, but sparkies NEEDS to hang around. Otherwise we'll have a million noob questions all over the place, and no one wants that. Stories section needs to come back. I think we can get rid of homeless issues and runaway issues. Hippie rainbow. We can get rid of the cycling section. And combine the two band topics into EVENTS. We have like five separate topics in digihitch users and updates, and I think we can combine that into one thing. We can include the Hitching europe into the hitching (other region) bit. Just a lot of shit can be combined. Shouldn't have to do a word search every time you want to find a certain category.

Morgan never said no to anyone's request to add another section. But we are trying to build something and maybe we should keep things simple at the onset. The old runaway forum took a great deal of time to deal with all the issues. A lot of those issues involved people mocking runaways or giving questionable advice. Rainbows came out of the woodwork a couple times a year but few people ever added anything to the site. That was always disappointing. Flatcar moderated the train-hopping section for years without any recognition and hopefully we can draw him over to this site.

SPEAKING OF! How do we feel about the new site giving information or how-tos on train hopping? I know DH had a strict 'No' policy on that. I for one would like to do away with that, or eliminate the section. It seems silly to me to have a section when no advice can be given in it. Plus, Train-hopping is a part of road life, a useful skill, and, from what I've heard, a hell of a good time if done right.

I'm no lawyer but train companies go ballistic over stuff like that.

I also don't like the censorship policy of swear words. We are all adults here.

There should be separate section for gear info and reviews. We could make a good chunk of income with regular columns and sponsored posts.

I also don't like the censorship policy of swear words. We are all adults here. It might be censorship but it is a privately-owned site. I think we need to set the bar higher the STP. Some people might have to elevate their game a bit. But how hard is it? Potential sponsors get scared off easily with swear words. Roaddog wrote a 365 page book about hitching in 5 countries over the span of 4.5 years and she swore maybe one time. You don't think she felt like swearing more than once?

The idea about the train hopping is interesting. I like that there is a thread for people who hop trains, yet I can understand that Morgan didn't want the responsibility for someone hopping a train and getting injured or death. That being said, the same could be said for hitchhiking. A newbie could read the forum, give it a go and get hit by a car.
I think the train thread should stay and discussing hopping should be allowed. There's a BIG difference between reading about it online and then going to actually find a train to go about it. Train hopping is a way of life for many folk and I wouldn't want to cut them out.
As far as swear words, or cussing, I think it's a good idea to keep some control in place for it. I mean, on a forum, that can get really out of hand and is difficult to read through. Maybe the settings can be adjusted to allow for some words and not others? I wouldn't want to see some knuckle head communicating most of their entire post in shit words- but that's just me. We are adults, but many people who use online forums surely don't behave as such!
Haha Lightfoot! I don't usually swear anyway- it's not really my voice or my nature unless I'm really pissed off about something. And yes, right now in my life, currently I am and it's bleeding over into my post here!

As the one who raised the point about the train thread, I obviously agree with you, RD. Part of it for me is, we'll either lose them to other sites (STP seems to come to mind seeing as a huge portion of their site is devoted to trains) or newbies will try it on their own anyway and get hurt. I'd rather have people here to coach them, at least. It's the same exact reason we HAD digihitch, only for hitching and not hopping.

Yea, hitching should be our main focus- agree with you on that one.
